Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know I need therapy?
Lots of people face stress and challenging life situations, but not everybody is ready to sit and face some of their biggest, scariest feelings and experiences with someone they just met. My guess would be you didn’t stumble onto this page because you’re feeling great. If you’re thinking about therapy but unsure whether you’re ready–let’s talk about it. I offer free 15 minute consultations over the phone to help you decide whether this is something you want to try.
How much does it cost?
My private pay hourly rate is $150 per session. However, if you have insurance you may be able to pay through your insurance depending on your policy.
Can I use my health insurance to pay for therapy?
I am currently working toward enrolling as a provider with multiple insurance providers throughout New Brunswick. I will be working to make therapy as accessible as possible as quickly as possible. Feel free to ask about specific carriers if you are unsure.
Can I really have trauma if I haven’t been in a warzone?
The short answer is yes. While our Western society learned about trauma from soldiers returning from war, you do not have to have experienced war to have experienced trauma. Trauma is more about the experience a person feels when something overwhelms their nervous system and causes lingering effects after the initial experience is over than the events themselves.
Do I have to come to an office?
While I enjoy my office, you may find that you process better while staying in your own space or it may just be difficult to get to the physical office location. I offer appointments in-person, through video, or over the phone. We’ll find what works best for your situation.
What if I need an appointment on the weekend or evening?
My typical office hours are Monday through Friday 9am – 5:30pm. However, I do have some flexibility in my schedule, so if you are trying to book a session and need a specific time or day, please reach out and I will do my best to accommodate you.
Where do you see clients?
My office is located in Moncton, NB, but I also offer telehealth services for clients throughout New Brunswick.
What is “complex trauma”?
So glad you asked! While acute trauma typically stems from an isolated incident complex trauma is more like death by a thousand cuts. Adults who experienced abuse or neglect during childhood often have no reference point for a “before and after” because their entire world and personality were formed in the middle of chronic, ongoing trauma. There is much more than can and has been said on this topic, but please reach out if you have more questions.
