Kate Gibson, MS LCT-C
Hi, I’m Kate. While I’m a relative newcomer to the field of mental health counselling, I’m no stranger to helping others walk through their trauma while processing their experiences. In addition to my MS in Clinical Mental Health Counselling, I have extensive experience in working with trauma survivors from my time counselling survivors of sexual assault and abuse at a community rape crisis center, and my own background has provided quite the education on religious and childhood trauma.
While my primary area of concentration is clients working through complex trauma, I also enjoy working with clients who are facing anxiety and depression which can make functioning in everyday life even more challenging. So whether you’ve got a documented trauma history or you are looking for someone to listen and sit with you in the healing journey–come on in, take a seat on the couch, and let’s take a calming breath before we get started.
Interesting tidbits about me:
I am a recent immigrant to Canada from the US – my family and I just landed in New Brunswick in late 2025.
I have a partner, kindergarten age child, and a pitbull who thinks he’s a lapdog.
I enjoy relaxing by riding my motorcycle, playing guitar, or generally watching shows like Superstore, Parks & Rec, or Gilmore Girls.
I am a big fan of Doctor Who and Father Brown.
Areas of Clinical Focus:
- Sexual Trauma
- Religious/Spiritual Trauma
- Childhood Trauma
- complex trauma (cPTSD)
- Anxiety/Depression
- Grief/Loss
Models of Therapy:
I tend to practice a integrative combination of existential, person-centered, and feminist/multicultural theories. Without getting too technical, this basically means that I prioritize a client’s sense of purpose, autonomy, and dignity. If these topics interest you, I welcome discussion and questions to help you better understand the framework behind our time together.
Statement of Ethical Principles:
I am committed to providing my clients with an ethical and empathetic space where we work together to address the reasons they are coming to counselling and facilitating their healing journey. As a clinical mental health counsellor, I am held to the standards of ethical practice by the CCPA, ACA, and the CCTNB.
